Julie Searle is a senior litigation associate who joined Diamond McCarthy in 2006. Prior to joining the firm, she served as a litigation associate at Baker & Hostetler LLP in Houston, Texas where her practice focused on commercial disputes, appellate, and employment litigation. Following law school, Julie served as a law clerk to the Honorable Melinda Harmon of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas.
In 2008, Texas Monthly named Julie as a “Rising Star” in its Super Lawyer Edition, a distinction reserved for the top 2.5% of Texas attorneys who are under 40 years of age or have been practicing law for less than 10 years.
A significant portion of Julie's practice is devoted to complex commercial litigation. Some of her representative matters include:
- Co-Lead associate in the successful prosecution and multi-million dollar settlement of a software company’s claims for breach of contract and copyright infringement regarding the defendant’s use of plaintiff’s software post-termination and unlawful sublicense of plaintiff’s intellectual property to a third party.
- Lead associate in the drafting of an amicus brief before the United States Supreme Court concerning Texas congressional redistricting issues.
- Lead associate in successful representation of a major excess insurance carrier before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, resulting in successful reverse and remand to the district court.
- Lead associate in successful representation of a commercial farming corporation before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit that resulted in the sustaining of a multi-million dollar judgment in client’s favor.
- Representation of Fortune 500 medical technology firm in a securities litigation matter. Prepared and drafted summary judgment motion that resulted in a multi-million dollar judgment in client's favor.
- Lead associate for client in the management of a national docket of labor and employment cases involving employment discrimination lawsuits. All cases were successfully resolved in the client's favor.
- Co-Lead associate in successful defense of real estate client in employment litigation matter involving claims under Title VII and the ADA. Case was settled for nuisance value.
- Member of litigation team representing the Joint Official Liquidators of Food Holdings Ltd. and Dairy Holdings Ltd. in the pursuit of claims against Bank of America, Deloitte, and Grant Thornton regarding the multi-billion dollar financial collapse of Parmalat.
Julie received her J.D. degree from Duke University in 2002, where she served as Notes Editor of the Duke Journal of Comparative & International Law and was a recipient of the law school's award for outstanding pro bono commitment. In addition, she received her B.A. in Government and Economics, cum laude, from Claremont McKenna College in 1999. While at Claremont McKenna, she was awarded the Henry Salvatori Fellowship and the Sydney J. Rosenberg Debate Award.
Julie was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 2002. She is licensed to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Southern, Northern, Eastern, and Western Districts of Texas. She is a member of the State Bar of Texas, Bar Association of the Federal Fifth Circuit, and Houston Young Lawyer's Association (HYLA). Julie is also a graduate of the 2004-2005 class of the HYLA Leadership Academy, and a co-chair of HYLA’s Special Olympics Committee for 2007-2008. In 2008, Julie was selected to be a fellow for HYLA, a distinction that is reserved for approximately 1% of organization’s membership.
