Joan joined Diamond McCarthy as Senior Litigation Counsel upon the opening of the New York office in November 2007. Her legal career has given her unparalleled breadth of experience in a wide range of complex litigation matters, as well as, expertise in counseling clients and drafting complex legal documents.

Joan spent ten years at Skadden Arps. She was a member of the tender offer litigation team, concentrating on the antitrust aspects of the largest tender offers of the 1970's and 80's. She successfully defended a massive post-tender Federal Trade Commission divestiture proceeding in the retail food industry. She was involved in the defense of the criminal proceeding against gypsum wallboard manufacturers, and also provided clients with ongoing antitrust advice. She spent four years at Snow Becker, where she represented Ademco, the major manufacturer of burglar and fire alarms in all aspects of its business, including litigation and corporate matters. She also represented officers and directors of Coleco in a securities class action arising from the introduction of the first home computer. At Proskauer Rose, she continued representing Ademco and also successfully defended Avis in a class action over allegedly deceptive car rental practices, and successfully prosecuted an extended rent escalation clause arbitration on behalf of a landlord against two bank tenants.

Joan was Senior Counsel at the Bank of New York from 1991 through 2000. She litigated in New York, and supervised cases throughout the world, involving the full range of banking issues. She was also Secretary to the Bank's Anti-Money Laundering Committee, legal liaison to the Bank's Security Department, and supervised the Bank' s Legal Processing Department, which handled all legal process such as subpoenas and executions on accounts and other assets. Upon joining Janvey, Gordon, Joan teamed with Richard Janvey in defending Wall Street specialists against charges brought by the Securities Exchange Commission and the New York Stock Exchange.

Joan is a member of the New York State Bar and admitted to practice in all New York federal and state courts. Joan is a graduate of Vassar College and received her law degree from the Georgetown University Law Center in 1973, where she served as an Editor of the Law Review. Joan is also a member of the American Arbitration Association panel of commercial arbitrators, and has arbitrated a variety of commercial claims, including a multi-million dollar claim with a five-day hearing arising out of the sale of a business. She is an active Vassar alumna serving as President of her Vassar class, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Vassar Club of New York.
