John Barkley Sample IV represents clients (as both plaintiff and defense counsel) in a wide range of general, labor and employment, and complex litigation matters, including products liability, trademark infringement, breach of contract, Medicaid and Medicare fraud, and Biometric Information Privacy Act claims. He manages multiple litigation matters, in both state and federal court, including conducting depositions, managing discovery, drafting dispositive motions and conducting settlement negotiations. He advises and counsels multiple healthcare provider clients on a variety of regulatory and compliance matters, and conducts internal investigations related to potential trading violations on the NYMEX and COMEX; Medicaid and Medicare fraud; and sexual assault. He has particular expertise with contract disputes, and has contributed to editing the book, Illinois Contract Litigation.
Mr. Sample also has a significant pro-bono practice where he represents multiple asylum applicants through all phases of the asylum process, including filing of I-589s and I-765s, and drafting affidavits and briefs for the respective client. His pro-bono practice also includes the provision of services as a Guardian Ad Litem, and includes the representation of an array of clients with various needs, including guidance on discretionary vendor selection policies, drafting of independent contractor agreements, insurance negotiation, FOIA requests, prisoner settlement assistance, expulsion hearings, and jail visits to apprise arrestees of their rights.
John is an active member of the Houston community and regularly engages with service organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club and Minority Bar Associations.
