A UK-qualified lawyer, Juliya Arbisman focuses her practice on international arbitration and cross-border disputes. Substantial dollar amounts and extremely complex issues are common factors in nearly every case Juliya handles, whether she’s pursuing claims arising from a billion-dollar corporate shakedown with parallel criminal and civil proceedings across multiple jurisdictions, or resolving a significant mining or energy dispute in Russia/CIS, Africa or the Middle East.
Juliya has deep experience serving as lead counsel in international arbitrations governed by a broad range of rule frameworks, including the LCIA, ICC, UNCITRAL, SCC, SIAC, Swiss Chamber and ICSID. She has handled a number of court-based applications regarding arbitration as well, including injunctions, set-aside claims and enforcement proceedings.
Clients also rely on Juliya to help them resolve challenging legal issues in Commonwealth jurisdictions, including several matters before the Privy Council. She provides strategic advice to support claims in a variety of proceedings, including judicial reviews, public law and criminal proceedings, requests for consular assistance concerning individuals charged abroad, individual mandate submissions before UN bodies such as the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, and the individual mandate of Special Rapporteurs.
Juliya is also active in the field of business and human rights and is a ranked individual in this area in Chambers and Partners (2019).
