Courtenay Barklem is dual qualified in California and UK. He specializes in commercial litigation and arbitration, including construction and other international disputes. He is an Adjunct Professor of Law at Pepperdine University’s London campus.
He regularly represents clients on numerous construction disputes, including advice on the FIDIC suite of contracts, in domestic as well as arbitral proceedings. He has advised clients in relation to arbitrations under the LCIA, ICC, UNCITRAL, SCC, and ICSID rules.
Courtenay is on the panel of international arbitrators with NAM (National Arbitration and Mediation).
In July 2018, the English Court of Appeal noted his “quick thinking and ingenuity” in a USD $15.5 million claim against a sovereign wealth fund (see para 26 of Catalyst Management Services v Libya Africa Investment Portfolio  EWCA Civ 1676).
He is on the advisory board of the ABA’s business and human rights project and was recommended in the UK Legal 500 for civil liberties in 2016.
