Joan M. Secofsky is a Senior Counsel in Diamond McCarthy’s New York office. Joan brings an unparalleled breadth of experience in complex corporate and securities litigation, antitrust matters, counseling, investigations and class actions to her practice.

Joan joined the Diamond McCarthy team in 2007 as the firm opened its New York office. Her legal career includes working as senior counsel at the Bank of New York, as well as many years with prominent law firms. At the bank, Joan litigated in New York and supervised cases throughout the world. As member of the tender offer litigation team at a major law firm, Joan concentrated on the antitrust aspects of the largest tender offers of the 1970s and 1980s.

Joan successfully defended a massive post-tender Federal Trade Commission divestiture proceeding in the retail food industry; was involved in the defense of the criminal proceeding against gypsum wallboard manufacturers; and provided clients with ongoing antitrust advice. She also represented officers and directors of a company in a securities class action arising from the introduction of the first home computer and successfully defended one of the largest car rental companies in a class action over allegedly deceptive car rental practices. Along with Diamond McCarthy Partner Richard Janvey, Joan defended Wall Street specialists against charges brought by the Securities Exchange Commission and the New York Stock Exchange.

Joan is also an active member of the American Arbitration Association panel of commercial arbitrators, the FINRA arbitration panel and the arbitration panel of the Commercial Division of the Supreme Court of the State of New York, New York County.  In addition, she is a New York State certified mediator and mediates cases for the federal courts in New York.

Joan is a member of the New York State Bar and admitted to practice in all New York federal and state courts.
