Richard I. Janvey is a Diamond McCarthy partner who represents domestic and international clients in all phases of complex commercial, financial, securities and partnership litigations. In his practice, Richard has tried cases in federal and state courts and has conducted arbitrations before the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), the New York Stock Exchange and the American Arbitration Association. Based in the firm’s New York City office, he handles cross-border litigations, bankruptcy litigation, business torts, fraud, breach of fiduciary duty cases, trade secrets and employee non-compete covenants.

Richard defends officers and directors, and outside professionals in cases involving securities and common law fraud, and represents targets and witnesses in connection with SEC investigations and proceedings. Richard counsels and litigates for not-for-profits regarding governance and regulatory issues.

In addition to litigation and disputed matters, Richard provides counsel and negotiates business transactions to public and non-public middle market domestic companies, directors, partnerships, investors and individuals on a variety of matters, including mergers and acquisitions, securities law, regulatory compliance, and compensation and employment matters. He counsels foreign companies on their U.S. business activities, including real estate transactions.

Richard joined Diamond McCarthy in 2007 to help lead the firm’s entry into the New York market and open its new Manhattan office. Previously, he enjoyed a distinguished legal career as the founder and senior partner of a mid-size New York law firm, as a litigator with a major international law firm, and as associate general counsel of a Big Four accountancy firm.

Active in numerous professional, civic and charitable organizations, Richard has served in a number of leadership roles for the New York City Bar Association and is a former trustee of the Federal Bar Council. He also taught corporate law as an adjunct faculty member at Cardozo Law School.

Richard is a member of the New York and California State Bars, and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit, and the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
